Pope Francis consoles Nigerian families

The Holy Father Pope Francis has expressed deep shock and commiserated with the families of the recent bomb attack at Medina Mosque in Mubi, Adamawa State in which 50 people lost their lives. Several others were injured in the terror attack. Pope Francis described the incident as a senseless and deplorable act. The Pope’s message is contained in a letter signed by the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

The message reads, “Having learned with sadness of the bombing at the Medina Mosque in Mubi, His Holiness Pope Francis extends heartfelt condolences to all who are mourning the loss of loved ones and those injured in this senseless and deplorable act of violence. Entrusting the deceased to the merciful love of the Almighty, His Holiness offers the assurance of his prayers for the community and his encouragement to the civil authorities and emergency personnel in the aftermath of this tragic attack.”

Last  Tuesday, 50 people were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up in the Mosque. The blast happened during early morning prayers at the Madina Mosque in the Unguwar Shuwa area of Mubi, some 200 kilometres from the Adamawa state capital, Yola. It was described as the worst attack in Adamawa since December 2016, when two female suicide bombers killed 45 people at a crowded market in the town of Madagali.

The Police attributed the recent attack to members of the terrorist organisation, Boko Haram.
