More than eighteen million jobs could be lost in Mexico due to the ravages of Coronavirus and the resulting massive as well as devastating inroads into its already fragile economy.
By James Blears
Millions of small businesses are already faltering, looking set and certain to fold and  go under, as the virus takes its grip, with  lockdowns become stricter and more restricting. Big business is also grievously suffering with tourism virtually stone dead and the automotive industry grinding to a juddering standstill, with suspended  production almost totally across the board.
Experts predict that adverse effects will bite even deeper and harder in April with extraordinary levels of  unemployment inevitably following. Trade, transportation and tourism including restaurants employ more than eighteen million people, which adds up to fifty five percent of Mexico`s workforce. Hundreds of thousands of shops have already been shuttered in cities which have become virtual ghost towns.
Mexico is also under the cosh health wise, because of its very high levels of obesity, diabetes and blood pressure problems.
