Pope appoints Arch. Pioppo Apostolic Nuncio to Indonesia

(Vatican Radio)  Pope Francis, currently on an apostolic visit to Colombia, on Friday appointed a new apostolic nuncio to Indonesia.  Italian Archbishop Piero Pioppo, until now the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea is the Apostolic Nuncio (equivalent to Vatican ambassador) to Indonesia.  The 56-year old archbishop succeeds Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazzi, also an Italian, whom Pope Francis on 26 April transferred to Nigeria as Apostolic Nuncio.
Born in Savona on September 29, 1960, Archbishop Piero Pioppo was ordained a priest on June 29, 1985.  He is specialized in dogmatic theology
He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1993, serving in the Holy See’s mission in South KoreaChile and at the Vatican Secretariat of State. In 2006 he was appointed prelate to the Vatican’s Institute for the Works of Religion (Italian: Istituto per le Opere di Religione – IOR), commonly known as the Vatican Bank
In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.  Apart from his mother tongue, Italian, Archbishop Pioppo knows French, English and Spanish.
