following day.
The Consistory
As announced by Pope Francis during his “Regina Coeli”
prayer at midday on Sunday, May 20, the Ordinary Public Consistory for the
creation of 14 new cardinals will be held in the Vatican on June 28.
The evening ceremony in St. Peter’s Basilica will include
the imposition of the cardinal’s red hat, the consignment of the ring and the
assignment of the Title or Diaconate.
Courtesy visits to felicitate the new cardinals are
scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. the same day.
Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul
The following morning, Friday, June 29, the Pope will
preside over a Mass in St. Peter's Square on the Solemnity of Saints Peter and
Paul, the patrons of Rome.
During the Mass, the Pontiff will bless the sacred Pallium
which will be sent to new metropolitan archbishops appointed by him during the
course of the past year.
