The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) annual Collection for the Church in Latin America will be taken up the weekend of January 25-26 2020.
In a message Bishop Octavio Cisnero invites the faithful to help “strengthen families, fund Catholic education, and foster priestly and religious vocations by giving to the Collection.
The auxiliary bishop of Brooklyn and chairman of the Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America of the USCCB says “for over 50 years, Catholics in the United States have expressed solidarity with the Church from Mexico to the Caribbean, to the southern tip of South America through the Collection.”
The 2020 campaign highlights the faith of Latin America and the many opportunities we have to share faith with them.
Cisnero says “We also recognize the tremendous benefit of having our Latin American brothers and sisters in the Church and the revitalization their fervor brings to the faith. In addition to offering our help and support to the Catholics of Latin America, we have much to learn from them.”
The collection supports the work of the Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America by funding grants for pastoral efforts such as lay leadership training, seminarian and religious formation, prison ministry, and youth ministry, among others.
More information about the Collection for the Church in Latin America and the grants it funds, as well as resources to promote it across the country, can be found at www.usccb.org/latin-america.
