Pope appoints a new bishop in
Daet Diocese, the Philippines
Fr. Rex Andrew C. Alarcon is the new Bishop of Daet in the
Philippines.
Pope Francis on January 2 appointed a new bishop in the
Diocese of Daet in the Philippines. Father Rex Andrew C. Alarcon of the
Archdiocese of Caceres, until now the superintendent of the parish schools of
the Archdiocese.
Curriculum Vitae of Fr. Rex Andrew Alarcon:
Fr. Alarcon was born in Daet, Camarines Norte, on August 6,
1970. After high school and philosophy courses at the Holy Rosary Minor
Seminary in Naga, he studied theology at the University of Santo Tomas in
Manila.
He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Caceres on 9
November 1996, following which he served as assistant parish priest of St. John
the Evangelist Parish in Naga and educator at the minor seminary until
1997.
From 1997 to 1999 he served as private secretary to the
archbishop.
From 1999 and 2001 he studied at the Pontifical Gregorian
University in Rome, Italy, obtaining a licentiate in Church History.
Back home from Rome, he became Professor at the Holy Rosary
Minor Seminary Rosary.
Since 2002 he has been the director of the Stewardship
programme of the Archdiocese of Caceres, and since 2007, the superintendent of
the Naga parochial school and president of the Catholic Association of
Education.
Since 2013 he has been superintendent of the Catholic
Schools of the Archdiocese, a member of the College of Consultants and
spokesperson for the Archdiocese. Since 2016 he has been president of the
Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines.
The See of Daet has been vacant since February 2, 2017,
after Pope Francis transferred Bishop Gilbert Armea Garcera to Lipa as
Archbishop. Daet Diocese, erected on May 27,
1997, is a suffragan of Caceres Metropolitan
ecclesiastical province.
