Pope: Honor war victims with ceasefires, genuine

Fung-wong.

Pope Leo expressed his closeness to the people of the
Philippines where super-typhoon Fung-wong has forced more than a million to
evacuate areas to be hardest hit. The powerful storm has recorded sustained
winds of 185 km/h (115mph) with gusts over 230km/h (143mph). The Pope said he
is praying for the deceased and their families, for the injured, and for those
who have been displaced.
Appreciation for those working for peace
The Pope also expressed his deep appreciation for all those
who in every way are working to build peace in various regions affected by war.
He recalled that in recent days we have prayed for the deceased from armed
conflicts, and sadly, among them are many killed in combat and bombardments —
even though they were civilians: children, the elderly, the sick. He
underscored that if we truly wish to honor their memory, may there be a
ceasefire and a genuine commitment to negotiations.
Italy marks Thanksgiving Day
The Church in Italy is celebrating its annual Thanksgiving
Day, and the Pope added his voice to the nation's Bishops who in their annual
message encourage responsible care for the land, efforts to stop food wastage,
and the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. He said, may we thank
God for 'Mother Earth' and for all who cultivate and care for our planet.
