Francis Pope received in audience on Saturday morning, 18
October, the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Nguyen Tan
Dung. Subsequently, the Prime
Minister met with the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, accompanied
by Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, secretary for Relations with States.
During the cordial talks was welcomed today's meeting, which
marks an important stage in the process of strengthening relations between the
Holy See and Vietnam, this being the second visit that Prime Minister Dung
performs at the Vatican after the 2007 . has been highlighted in the Church's
commitment to contribute to the development of the country, thanks to its
presence in various sectors for the benefit of society. In this context, it was reiterated my
deep appreciation for the support given by the authorities to the Catholic
community in the context of developments enshrined in the Constitution of the2013
in the matter of religious policy, as well as the assistance provided to
non-resident pontifical representative of the Holy See in Vietnam in carrying
out its mission, aimed at the promotion of relations between Church and State
in view also of the common goal of diplomatic relations. There has therefore focused on some
issues that we hope will be explored and resolved through the existing channels
of dialogue.
It is, finally, an exchange of views on some topical regional
and international levels, with particular reference to efforts to promote peace
and stability in Asia.
