Pope
and Fr Lombardi address journalists en route to Kenya
(Vatican
Radio) During the flight to Kenya on Wednesday afternoon, Fr Federico
Lombardi invited the Pope to say a few words to the journalists on board. Fr
Lombardi began by thanking the Pope for his time and then spoke of the fact
that earlier that morning, the Holy Father had been greeted by a group of
eleven women and six children while he was leaving the Casa Santa Marta. He
explained that these women had been victims of domestic violence,of trafficking
and of prostitution. They are now in a convent, where they are being looked
after and helped to overcome their troubles.
Fr
Lombardi then handed over to Pope Francis, who thanked those on the flight for
their dedication to the trip. “I thank you for all you will do, because this
journey will be a fruitful one, both spiritually and physically”.
Before
returning to his seat, he warned “watch out for the mosquitoes!”
