The Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central
Africa (ACWECA) has urged the Zambia Association of sisterhood (ZAS) to
strengthen and embrace their mission in youth and family ministries. ACWECA
General Secretary, Sr. Enelesi Chimbali has also encouraged the sisters to
embrace the Holy Father’s encyclical “Laudato sì -On Care for Our Common Home”
and include it in their educational ministry.
ACWECA congratulates ZAS
“I want to congratulate ZAS especially for the different
programmes that they are running which involve many sisters including those
outside Zambia. I encourage you to continue carrying out your mission and
giving hope to the people you serve. In your mission as sisters, include the
ministry of the youth, families and the encyclical of the Holy Father, “Laudato
si,” she said.
Religious women in Zambia praised
Sr. Enelesi who is visiting ZAS ahead of their Diamond
Jubilee, this Saturday, also praised the role of ZAS within ACWECA.
“ZAS has been so good and even initiated the birth of ACWECA
in 1973. It is one of the eldest members of ACWECA, and it has also
produced the longest member as President who served for five consecutive years
and contributed a lot to the association. It was during Zambia’s tenure as
Chair that ACWECA managed to bring countries like Sudan, Eritrea and Ethiopia
on board.” She added, “In the past, ZAS has also hosted several AWCECA
meetings, the last one being in 2014 when a Zambian member was elected again as
President till 2017," she recalled.
Younger Sisters are the face and future of ZAS
Sr. Enelesi has also admired the smooth running of ZAS
further invited younger religious women to participate and be fully involved in
the affairs of ZAS.
“This is good because it instils ownership of the
Association (in the future generation). It gives hope to carry the mandate of
the sisters and their Charisms, “she said. The sisters, Sr. Enelesi said, must
continue to take ZAS to higher heights.
ZAS is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee under the theme;
“Celebrating with Gratitude God’s Faithfulness and Embracing the Future with
Confidence” on Saturday, 17th November 2018 at Roma’s Assumption Parish
in Lusaka, Zambia.
