Syria's President Bashar al-Assad has sacked Prime Minister
Imad Khamis, as he struggles with a worsening economic crisis that has
triggered protests.

Syrian President Bashar al Assad fired Prime Minister Imad
Khamis from his post, after protests in regime-held areas decrying worsening
economic hardships.
The Water Resources Minister Hussein Arnous has been
appointed to fill the post.
The country is in the middle of an economic crisis, with the
currency plunging all time lows, aggravating hardships for ordinary members of
the public.
Syria’s currency hit a record 3,000 Syrian pounds to the
dollar earlier in an accelerating free-fall. It traded at 47 pounds at the
start of the conflict.
President Assad blames Western sanctions for widespread
hardship among ordinary residents, where the currency collapse has led to
rising prices and people struggling to make ends meet.
