Pope
appoints Bishop Poisson to Joilette diocese
(Vatican
Radio) Pope Francis has appointed to the diocese of Joilette, Canada, Bishop
Raymond Poisson, who until now had served as auxiliary bishop of Saint-Jérôme.
Bishop
Poisson was born 30 April 1958 in Saint-Hyacinthe (Québec). He studied
completed his studies at the Most Holy Trinity seminary in Saint-Bruno and the
Collège André Grasset, and was ordained a priest in 1983 for the diocese of
Saint-Jean-Longueuil.
Having
received he received his bachelors from the Theological Faculty of Montréal, he
then studied at Rome’s Pontifical Gregorian university from 1987-1989, where he
obtained a doctorate in theology.
Bishop
Poisson was appointed auxiliary bishop of Saint-Jérôme on 1 May, 2012 by Pope
Emeritus Benedict XVI, and was ordained the following 15 June.
The
Pope also accepted the resignation of bishop Giles Lussier, who has reached the
mandatory retirement age of 75.
