Stone plaque in Seoul to commemorate Pope Francis' visit

A stone plaque has been erected in Seoul’s Gwanghwamun Square to commemorate the pastoral visit of Pope Francis to South Korea a year ago.  During the visit of Pope Francis to Korea, August 14 to 18, on the occasion of the celebration of the Catholic Churchs Asian Youth Day in Daejeon Diocese, the Holy Father declared Paul Yun Ji-Chung and his 123 martyr companions Blessed.  The meter high and 1.7 meter broad stone plaque will be inaugurated on August 23 by Cardinal Andrew Yeom Suu-Jung, the Archbishop of Seoul.  A note by the archdiocese explained that the Gwanghwamun Gate square where Pope Francis beatified the martyrs. is the place where many other Korean Catholics were assassinated for their faith.  It will become a place of pilgrimage that symbolizes freedom andStone plaque in Seoul to commemorate Popes visit equality, the note said.
